About US

Big Bear 4‑H

Big Bear 4-H is a vibrant youth development chapter nestled in the heart of the San Bernardino Mountains. As part of America’s largest youth organization, our local 4-H chapter offers hands-on learning experiences that build life skills, character, and community among youth of all ages and backgrounds.

Founded and led by Rebecca Hinton, a Big Bear native and lifelong 4-H’er, our chapter brings the values of 4-H home—where nature, responsibility, creativity, and leadership come together. Rebecca grew up right here in Big Bear, where her early experiences in 4-H helped shape who she is today. Now, she’s giving back by creating a space where the next generation can grow, explore, and thrive.

A Community for All Kids

At Big Bear 4-H, we believe in the potential of every child. Whether they’re learning how to care for animals, planting a garden, coding their first website, or painting a masterpiece—our members build skills that stay with them for life. Our programs are open to all youth and emphasize:

  • Confidence through experience
  • Creativity through expression
  • Leadership through action
  • Community through connection

What We Offer

With the guidance of dedicated mentors and volunteers, Big Bear 4-H members engage in fun, educational programs in areas like:

Our 4-H Roots

Big Bear 4-H is part of the national 4-H movement—delivered through a network of 100+ public universities and Cooperative Extension offices across the U.S. The 4-H model is grounded in Positive Youth Development (PYD), pairing kids with caring mentors, hands-on projects, and leadership opportunities that prepare them for the future.

We live by the 4-H pledge:

I pledge my head to clearer thinking,
My heart to greater loyalty,
My hands to larger service,
And my health to better living,
For my club, my community, my country, and my world.

Whether you’re a parent, educator, local business, or youth ready to dive in—Big Bear 4-H welcomes you. Together, we can inspire the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers right here in our mountain community.
