Our Community Service Experience

We recently joined other kinds from our 4-H program for a community service day in San Bernardino. It was an amazing experience that taught us so much about helping others and working together.

Some of the things we did

  • Food Squad – Team up to collect, sort, and package food donations to support families in need.
  • Book Buddies – Gather new and gently used books, then organize reading corners for local schools and libraries.
  • Community Greeters – Welcome neighbors, give out smile cards, and spread kindness around town.
  • Garden Growers – Plant seeds, help maintain community garden beds, and learn about growing your own food.
  • Clean Squad Champions – Pick up trash in local parks, clean up public spaces, and make the neighborhood shine.

On the day of the event, we visited local community centers and met with families in need. We helped organize food drives by collecting and sorting donations to support homeless families. We also participated in book drives, gathering reading materials and toys for under-resourced schools.

The best part was working in teams with other kids and adults. We learned that even small actions make a big difference in our community. One of the kids shared, “I never realized how many families needed help until today. We made a real impact.”

Other participants said it helped them understand what it means to be good citizens. We learned about compassion, leadership, and how to care for others. These skills will help us in school and in life.

This event showed us that when we come together, we can do amazing things. We are proud of what we accomplished and excited to do more in the future.
